The Australian Retailers Association is the peak industry body and the leading voice for retail. We seek an experienced policy advisor with a keen interest in business and industry affairs, a passion for research and a great eye for detail – we'd love to hear from you.

You will help drive policy and regulatory priorities that are of diverse strategic and commercial interest to ARA members. You will be responsible for researching, safeguarding and promoting ARA member interests through government and public affairs channels and helping to achieve optimal political, legislative, and regulatory outcomes.

Working closely with member representatives and committees to understand members needs and priorities, high degrees of collaboration and engagement are essential to success in this role.

This role can be based anywhere in Australia.


  • Research and articulate ARA's position on policy issues in submissions and briefing papers to key public affairs audiences. 

  • Contribute to the advocacy efforts and campaign deployment strategies to achieve public policy outcomes, or maintenance of the status quo, if favourable. 

  • Help advise on policy and market trends and risks affecting ARA members and the broader retail industry. 

  • Contribute to policy discussions within the ARA’s Advisory Committees 

  • Represent the ARA in key stakeholder meetings that are of strategic or commercial interest to ARA members. 

  • Contribute to the development of the ARA’s narrative with Federal, State and Local Governments, one designed to build both trust in the ARA and its broader reputation as the peak industry body for retailers. 

  • Help build and sustain external stakeholder relationships and anticipating evolving commercial and policy environments.
